Operations - For Men - Nose Correction (Rhinoplasty)
A nose is located in the center of a face. It is not possible to cover it or put a mask over it. Its non-esthetic looks is very often a cause of inferiority complexes, leading to lack of self-consciousness. A well done nose correction allows psychical relieve, and strengthening of self-assurance. However, the decision concerning undergoing this kind of procedure is often very hard, despite the strong motivation caused by psychical discomfort and esthetic reasons. The most common disorders of nose shape are deviations of its symmetry, deviation of a nasal septum, shapeless and to big nose end, to high ridge of the nose or "saddle shape" deformation. Plastic surgery of a nose is aimed on fixing of chondro-skeleton and bony skeleton. In order to receive the desired shape of a nose, we remove the responsible structures, and also transplant the bones and cartilage.

The nose correction is a very common plastic surgery, not only in our Clinic, but also worldwide.
Qualification and preparation for operationFor persons coming from very distant parts of the country and from abroad the pre-procedure consultation qualifying for the procedure can be performed on the day of operation. After qualification all of the necessary blood tests will be carried out in our Clinic. Only the patients who are more than 50 years old should get their EKG done before coming to the clinic.
The patients from very distant parts of the country and Europe should plan their arrival on the day before the operation, so they can take a rest. You are not allowed to eat or drink anything on the day of operation. Your stomach should be perfectly empty. The patient should reduce cigarette smoking at least 4 weeks before the planned operation. Pain killers with acetylsalicylic acid or medications which contain aspirin should be stopped at least 14 days before the operation, because they have influence on blood clotting. You need to tell your plastic surgeon about all of the medications that you take. All kinds of allergies are also very important for your medical history. You may ask your surgeon about anything that bothers you due to operation. The doctor, who will perform you operation will discuss the operational method, and inform about the possible dangers. In case of any kind of change of the date of operation, for example due to sickness, please inform the Clinic, so we can arrange another date for you.
Operation and staying in the ClinicDepending on the technique, the nose correction can be performed in local or general anesthesia. The place of incision depends on indications. The procedure consists in correction of cartilage and bony part of the nose, depending on the desired shape. It finishes with suturing of skin or mucous membrane incisions, tamponing of nasal passages and immobilization of nose with the use of narrow dorsal splint. We use the dissolvable sutures. The procedure usually lasts bout 1,5 hours. Thanks to the use of the modern operational methods, you shouldn't have to stay in our Clinic more than 1-3 days. The final result of nose cosmetic operation is visible after several months.
Post-operative proceduresThe tamponing of nasal passages is kept for about 48 hours. After 8-10 days, the splint (fixing dressing) is removed. The swelling disappears usually after 3-4 weeks from the operation. On the first day after the procedure the patient has to stay in bed with his/her head lifted up. Cold compresses reduce te swellings and hematomas. For the next few days you shouldn't remove the exudates from nose to actively. After removing of external dressing, you may cover your skin with make up. For the next three months you should avoid any kind of traumas or injuries, as well as excessive warming or cooling. After the operation your nose if very susceptible to trauma, therefore you need to be very cautious while playing sports, and you are not recommended to wear glasses before 3 weeks after operation. At the beginning you should also avoid excessive sun exposition and use of solar beds and sauna.
Each patient will receive detailed information concerning further, individual poceedings at the discharge.
Risk and possible complicationsJust like for any other procedure, there is a risk of infection, excessive bleeding, creation of scars and hematomas. Reduction of sensitivity of nose and upper lip is possible, but usually it disappears after several weeks. On the site of bone incisions, the superstructure of bone tissue and excessive bulging of a nose are possible. The transplanted bones and cartilages can get removed. Those complications are common and can be surgically corrected. In case of any questions or doubts, you may ask our surgeon.
Despite of theoretical possibility of occurrence of complications, none of the above has ever happened in our Clinic.
