Operations - For Men - Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)
Very often abdominoplasty is carried out not only because of the esthetic reasons, but also because of health problems, because the excess of adipose tissue on the tummy causes vertebral column overweight and troublesome pains.
This procedure consists in performance of one incision (the type depends on the surgeon's preferences), above the pubic symphysis, so the scar is almost invisible, and then the skin and adipose tissue fold is separated from the abdominal fascia up to the costal arch, which allows maximal slide down of skin downward and after the pulling - removal of excess of skin with red marks and scars after other operations. Before this an incision around the belly button is made, in order to save it, and transplant to the new place at the end of the procedure, on the same level as previously. Before sewing of the wound it is important (if necessary) to perform plication of sheath of straight muscle of abdomen, in order to receive maximal firmness of the anterior wall of abdomen.
After the operation the drainage is installed for several days, in order to control the blood loss, and a proper pressuring dressing is put, so the separated skin can connect with the base. In patient, who's excess of skin and adipose tissue is located below the belly button, we can perform less invasive operation, so called: miniplasty (incision like previously, or a little bit narrower, separation only up to the belly button and removal of excess of skin, saving the belly button in its original site). Sometimes the transverse belly-plasty is performed - incision of skin below the costal arches, separation of skin-adipose fold downwards and pulling of skin up, removing the excess on the desired level. A wonderful effect improves the figure, is long lasting and allows normal functioning.
Sometimes the abdominoplasty is performed due to hygienic reasons, i.e. when the gigantic skin-adipose fold lies on the symphysis, making the everyday hygiene impossible, and in places where the skin of the fold lies on the thighs, there are wounds and sometimes infections. In such cases this procedure allows normal functioning and normal activities.
In most of the cases this kind of procedure has a soothing influence on the patients' psyche, eliminates depression, back pains, etc. Reaching the desired goal has usually positive influence on complexes, makes the patients happy and adds some optimism.
Qualification for procedureFor persons coming from distant parts of the country or from abroad, pre-procedure consultation, which qualifies for the procedure, can be performed on the day of planned operation. For example, the consultation is carried out in the morning, and the procedure is performed in the afternoon.
During the consultation the patient should ask about all of the issues connected to the planned operation, about anything which bothered her or caused anxiety. The doctor, who is going to perform the procedure will explain the entire conduct of operation, determine the range of operation and will discuss the operational technique. If you have any ailments, or take any medications, inform you surgeon about it. During the consultation the patient will be informed about the possible dangers.
Preparation for operationThe patients from very distant parts of the country and Europe should plan their arrival on the day before the operation, so they can take a rest. After qualification, all of the necessary blood tests will be carried out in our Clinic. Only the patients who are 50 years old or more should get their EKG done before the arrival. You are not allowed to eat or drink anything on the day of operation. Your stomach should be perfectly empty. The patient should reduce cigarette smoking at least 4 weeks before the planned operation. In case of any kind of change of the date of operation, for example due to sickness, please inform the Clinic, so we can arrange another date for you.
Procedure and staying in the ClinicDepending on the range, the operation is carried out in partial (from waist to feet), general or local anesthesia. Thanks to the use of modern operational methods, your stay in our Clinic shouldn't exceed 1-4 days.
Post-operative proceduresAll of the patients receive a special belly belt to be worn for six weeks (or other pressuring clothing). For the first four weeks it is very important to pay special attention to the reactions of own organism. Although there is no pain or other symptoms of previous operation, you shouldn't overexert yourself. A lot of rest is recommended for fast healing. Any kind of activity, sports or house work are forbidden. You should also avoid excessive sunshine, sue of solar beds or sauna. For the first three months after healing it is recommended to use ointments and creams which reduce the scars. According to the recommendations of the surgeon, the stitches are removed after 14 days. You can do it in a local doctor's office or outpatients clinic pointed out by your family practitioner. Each of our patients will receive more individual information at the discharge from Clinic.
Risk and possible complicationsJust like for any other procedure, there is a risk of infection, bleeding, permanent tensions, creation of scars or swellings. For a long period of time you might not be able to feel your skin in the operated region. In case of any questions, ask our surgeon.
Despite of theoretical possibility of occurrence of complications, none of the above has ever happened in our Clinic.
